Targeted – Callahan & McLane #4 by Kendra Elliot

Detective Mason Callahan is not one to take a vacation but when he and some of his police buddies decided to spend a few days away in a cabin the last thing they expect is to be targeted. Finding his boss’s body outside the cabin sparks the beginning of a cop-killing serial killer with a fetish for horror movie masks.

When the FBI connects this case to a suicide of when of their own, Special Agent Ava McLane is called it to assist. With family issues still causing havoc, wedding decisions to make and officers from state departments being murdered, Ava must focus as the investigation plunges deeper and the murderer gets closer.

REVIEW

I am really enjoying this series. Targeted is full of surprises from the very beginning and even though I read the blurb about Mason’s boss it was still unexpected in the way it happened. The journey of Mason and Ava’s relationship is exciting and romantic without being sappy ( I don’t think anyone can accuse Mason of being sappy). It is good to have the characters not always focused solely on their job but getting an insight into their personal lives, their doubts and worries, and the affection that is evident between the two main characters.

Well written and engaging storyline. Twists and turns with a few red-herrings along the way. As with other stories by the same author it is not until she wants you to know who the killer that they are finally revealed. Hoping that there is more in this series as much for their relationship, as the murders.
