Deadly Shadows – The Kinncaid Brothers #1 by Jaycee Clark

When Aiden Kinncaid turns up a day early at the house he has rented in Colorado he gets more than he bargains for.
Jesslyn Black arrives home, having just witnessed a murder, to find a strange, half-naked man in her house. The police, who have accompanied her, place the unsuspecting man under arrest.
After a somewhat unconventional beginning, Jesslyn and Aiden become closer but with the horrors from her past and the threats to her future, Jesslyn is reluctant to enter into a new relationship.
With Jesslyn’s life in danger and his interfering family, can Aiden convince Jesslyn to place her trust in him?

This is the first in the Kinncaid Brothers series and it is a great start. I really enjoy series like this where we meet secondary characters who become main characters in later books but also continue to follow the original characters. The Kinncaids are not your archetypal heroes, well maybe with one exception that you will find out about in a later book, but they do follow their family motto – “This I’ll defend” and when the women they love are in danger watch out bad guys because the Kinncaids fight as a family.

Aiden and Jesslyn are great characters who clash from the outset but when they get together sparks fly. Be warned this is an over 18’s series and there are some very hot sex scenes. Mix that in with the danger, the romance, and the family Kinncaid, and you’ve got yourself a series that you will want to re-read again and again.

(This was my third read of this series before writing this review)
